Twilight is an elite, legendary spy and master of disguise who is given a top-secret mission… to prevent a war between two rival nations. To do this, Twilight has to infiltrate a prestigious school to get close to his target. But this time, he can’t accomplish the mission on his own. So to his absolute shock and horror, he’ll have to rely on amateurs by forming a fake family. Suddenly, our legendary spy finds himself at an orphanage ready to adopt a child in order to get access to this school. Thinking that a kid will be enough to succeed at his mission, he’s ready to go at it with just him and his newfound child. But this prestigious school is a bit traditional and it seems having a wife is one of the prerequisites. So now Twilight will have to manage a mission that includes two unknown and unpredictable complications… a wife and a child. And if that’s not complicated enough, this wife and child have their own secrets… assassin and telepath secrets.

Pros:
Amazing Characters

Our three main characters are absolutely amazing. They have some heartwarming and hilarious interactions. From training Anya to fight to community service activities to saving Princess Anya in a castle… I adore their family bonding moments.

Loid, aka Twilight, goes between a cool and calculating personality and a kind and caring disposition as he starts to become emotionally attached to his family. His character arc is super satisfying as he struggles to maintain an objective perspective with his mission. And as his love for his family grows, we get more and more entertaining and cute moments where Loid pieces together how to become a better husband and father. Then there’s Yor, aka Thorn Princess, who may appear aloof on the outside but is actually a pretty awkward chick. She lacks some basic common sense and is easily embarrassed, so she can sometimes come across as a bit clueless. But she is also a determined, compassionate, and protective mother and I am obsessed with every scene where Yor trains Anya. Speaking of the telepath, Anya is my absolute favorite character. Her reactions after hearing her parents’ thoughts are some of the best parts of the story. She is a goofy, innocent, and adorable kid who really tries her best… well, between episodes of Spy Wars.

Hilarious Situation
Like I mentioned earlier, this whole situation came together because of Loid’s mission… to create a fake family in order to gain access to his target and maintain peace between two countries. This already elaborate scheme only gets more convoluted with our assassin of a mother and telepath of a child. Oh… and let’s not forget the fact that, because of Anya’s telepathy, she’s the only one who knows the real story of who her parents actually are. So cue some epic and absurd situations where this makeshift family somehow manages to  make it work against all odds.

Pacing
The author does a great job with pacing and keeps the storyline tight. He also does a good job of switching up the setting with a nice balance of school, home, and mission scene so you never get bored or tired of the plot.

Overall…
Spy x Family is a must read manga with some amazing MCs, an entertaining plot, and hilarious character interactions and situations. If you’re looking for a chaotic and funny manga, Spy Family is for you.
