Fragrant Flower is a feel-good story with a heartwarming relationship. You’ll find yourself smiling as you read each chapter. There are no slow burn, love triangle, or “will they, won’t they” issues here. Fragrant Flower is about two down-to-earth characters who care for one another.
Supportive friends and family
Alongside our two main characters, Rintaro’s friends and family are a group of genuine, compassionate people. They shower Rintaro with kindness and support. His family’s unconditional love is beautifully written and his friends are unfailingly caring throughout the story.
Life lessons
At the heart of Fragrant Flower is a meaningful life lesson about self-love and overcoming bias. It’s about not judging a book by its cover because every person has their own issues that they’re dealing with. Fragrant Flower showcases the importance of empathy instead of judgment.

Simple story that lacks plot layers
Ultimately, this is a first love romance story. Don’t expect worldbuilding, action, or plot layers. For example, the main character is introduced as a delinquent. But don’t expect fighting, crime, or inappropriate behavior from our delinquent main characters. Based on the context provided, I have no idea why Rintaro is viewed as scary or dangerous. The closest thing we have to delinquent behavior is when it is alluded to with older students’ behaviors.
Fragrant Flower is very simple with a focus on how a relationship helps with personal growth and self-acceptance. Of course, it is early in the series and it could evolve into a more complex story with upcoming volumes.

I was shocked to see that Fragrant Flower is listed as a shonen manga! It is a wonderful series that leaves you feeling all warm and fuzzy. If you are looking for a feel-good, simple romance story, look no further.
